Photos of the official acceptance of PS-38 and a walk-around showing the details of the newest ship in the PN. Birds eye view of PS38 soon after delivery from the US. Shows the newly built stern section with the ramp built to accommodate the RHIB.
Bow on view showing the Mk38 gun forward. The Navy is thinking of replacing this gun with something heavier. 30mm Emerlec maybe?
Stern view showing the bow of the RHIB and the Mk96 turret. US versions combine this with a 40mm grenade launcher.
Close-up of the Mk96 showing the gun and its aiming system. It has a built in night vision sight in addition to its day sight and is stabilized.
Bridge wings showing the two .50 cal guns. US Cyclones have two twin 50 cal guns in the same stations or one twin 50 and one 40mm grenade launcher.
Chaff launcher. Tied to the self protection suite which can trigger the chaff automatically in response to a missile threat or can be triggered manually by the crew.
Rigid Hull Inflatable boat. The ramp was the newest modification to the ship. It enables the rhib to launch and recover back on board far easier and faster than if it was equipped with davits. The RHIB can drive on to the ramp directly.
Stern shot showing the PS38s propellers. Taken during delivery as she was being prepared for unloading.
